Sri Lanka had sent the Kiwi innings for a tailspin; five down for 18 after eight overs. Chris Harris and Dion Nash tried to salvage some pride, putting together a partnership of 39 runs for the sixth wicket. Nash (23) top scored in the innings and was run out by Atapattu. In the same over from Kumar Dharmasena, the 23rd of the innings, Adam Parore (0) and Daniel Vettori (0) were dismissed off the last two balls to reduce the Kiwis to 57/8.
