The Hong Kong
Under 19 Team travelled to Karachi, Pakistan to participate
in the
Youth
Asia Cup from 14 - 27 July. The Cup, which was originally
scheduled in Singapore, was moved to Karachi due to SARS.
The Hong
Kong Team, thanks to ACC's extra funding, will have two practice
matches
in Karachi before the tournament.
The importance of
the tournament is two fold. Firstly, the 2 finalists will qualify for
the next Youth World Cup, and secondly, if they finish 6th or above,
the Hong Kong U19 team will qualify for the Hong Kong Sports

Match Reports
Match 2 - Hong Kong v. Kuwait at Quaid-e-Azam
Park on 19th July 2003
This match was at Pakistan's Steels Grounds, its about 90 minutes drive
from
our hotel so early morning for us.
When we left the hotel
at about 7:00am it was very heavily raining outside. Due to heavy rain
there was water on the roads and the bus needed to go very slowly.
By the time we
reached the ground, the rain had stopped. The ground was covered
very well
so umpires the decided to play a 35 overs per side match with the game
starting at 1:00pm.
Kuwait won the toss
and put Hong Kong to bat on little wet pitch. Hong Kong's batting continued
to struggle
through
the tournament and we lost the first wicket in the first over.
Most of the batsman struggled to bat through 35 overs and after scoring
14's &17's
runs they got out to just straight forward bowling. Hong Kong all
out in 32.5 overs and scored 129 runs.
Kuwait started well
their openers putting onabout
70 runs
before Hong Kong's masters spin attack started
operating from both ends. Nadeem Ahmed and Moazzam Ayub bowled well
taking 2 and 1 wickets respectively. A few dropped catches
at crucial stages made it easy for
Kuwait to chase the small total of 129 and they
completed the win by dispatching a boundary from Zain Abbas's 2nd ball.
Captain of Hong Kong
and few other boys are not fully fit until now due to
change of conditions, they are still struggling hard to get use to
these
conditions.
On social note Consulate General of China was invited on the Official
dinner
and he promise with us that he will come to watch Hong Kong 's
match against
Thailand.
Lets hope for good result tomorrow.
Today UAE all out 79 against Nepal and Maldives all out 45 against
Qatar. |
