The top sixteen Under-19 cricket teams from around the globe gathered in Christchurch, New Zealand on 9th January 2010 to contest the eigth edition of the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup. Particpating teams include the ten full ICC Member countries (Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, South Africa, West Indies and Zimbabwe) plus the top six Associate countries (Ireland, Afghanistan, Papua New Guinea, Canada, USA and Hong Kong) who qualified via the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup Qualifier 2009 tournament played in Toronto, Canada, during September 2009.
After arriving in New Zealand, the sixteen teams travelled to Christchurch to attend the opening ceremony, play warm-up matches and undertake media and administration commitments. Following this, the teams were split into four groups of four, with two groups based in Christchurch, one group in Queenstown and the fourth group in Palmerston North. At the end of all the group matches, the top eight teams reformed in Christchurch to contest the Super League while the bottom eight teams travelled to Napier to contest the Plate competition. The Super League Final - for the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup 2010 - was played in Christchurch on 30th January 2010.
