Saxena produces his best Ranji Trophy figures
Mumbai entered the Ranji Trophy Super League in 1999-2000 after a gap
of one season, eager to make amends for that aberration. They were
quite unstoppable in their first two games, dealing outright defeats
to Karnataka and Bengal in their own lairs. Mumbai's third engagement
against Rajasthan was at the more familiar surroundings of the
Wankhede Stadium in the first week of March.

Five wickets and a valuable duck!
The Ranji Trophy semifinal between Mumbai and Tamil Nadu dawned on April 11 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The hosts were fortified by the presence of Sachin Tendulkar for the first time in the season. Also for the first time in the season, Mumbai decided to go in with a four pronged pace attack in Ajit Agarkar, Paras Mhambrey, Abey Kuruvilla and Santosh Saxena.

Saxena revels in one-day format
Mumbai's first game in the West Zone Ranji one-day league in the 1999-2000 Ranji season was against Maharashtra at the Wankhede Stadium. Mumbai captain Amol Muzumdar won the toss and inserted their opponents in to bat on a November morning. The match was coinciding with the New Zealand tour of India so that several key figures in the Mumbai ranks were missing.

Saxena shows his mettle
Defending champions Mumbai took on rivals Maharashtra in their second engagement in the Ranji Trophy West Zone league of 1997/98 in the middle of November. The Mumbaikars had already whipped upstarts Gujarat by an innings and 68 runs in their opening fixture at Bulsar. Paras Mhambrey had been quite irresistible, taking eleven wickets wickets with the ball, and Sachin Tendulkar scored an inimitable 177 to put the issue beyond doubt.
