Preparations are well underway for the 2001 ICC Trophy. Work continues on the turf wickets. Mike Corley, the pitch consultant who has done a wonderful job with the Sahara Cup pitches is our specialist. We are eternally grateful to the Sahara Cup and to the Pakistan and Indian Cricket Boards and to IMG/TWI for their continued support, assistance and leadership. The CCA is a federally chartered non-profit corporation. ALL DONATIONS WILL BE ELIGIBLE AND RECEIVE TAX EXEMPTION RECEIPTS! Please support the development of Canadian Cricket. Kenya and Bangladesh have received ODI status. Bangladesh has applied for Test status. Does Canadian Cricket deserve anything less? Canada played in the 1979 World Cup with Sri Lanka - now a Test nation. We must do better and commit to re-qualifying for the 2003 World Cup in South Africa. We must qualify by winning the 2001 ICC Trophy in Toronto. We need your physical, moral and financial support NOW! Come on board.

ICC 2001 Trophy Confirmation Letter Received.

C. D. Hitchcock ICC Cricket Operations Manager in a letter of confirmation has stated:

Re: ICC Trophy 2001.
"At the Annual General Meeting of ICC last month, it was agreed to accept the Associate Members recommendation that the Canadian Cricket Association host the 2001 ICC Trophy in Toronto, Canada......."

The Canadian Cricket Association wishes to thank all fans, supporters, players and officials in Canadian Cricket for their past contributions to the game. These builders have made it possible for the CCA to be in a position to successfully bid in 1998. We know that we can on their continued support and active assitance to carry Canadian Cricket forward to ICC One Day International status by year 2000.

A major thrust is now underway to install five additional natural grass or turf squares starting early in September 1998. We wish to include at least one other ODI approved facility in that group.

We wish to formally thank the Sahara Cup parties, the Board of Control for Cricket in India, the Pakistan Cricket Board , and IMG/TWI, Event Management and Production for making this development plan possible. We must also thank the host club and its members for their continued and valuable contributions to cricket in Canada. That club of course is the magnificent Toronto Cricket Skating & Curling Club.

The first Cricket International was played in 1844 in the Americas between Canada and the United States. This was 50 years before the modern Olympics. Cricket has a lot of catching up to do in North America, obviously. Please support North American Cricket Development - support the Sahara Cup and events like the inaugural South Asian Harmony Festival, recently concluded in Vancouver.

"Together we aspire, Together we achieve."
