Australian skipper Ricky Ponting knew well in advance what he had
to do after winning the toss against Namibia at North West
Cricket Stadium in Potchefstroom. The string of easy wins had
denied the Australian batsmen valuable match practice, and here
was an opportunity to bat through the full 50 overs. Australia
lost opening batsman Adam Gilchrist (13) early in the innings,
but Matt Hayden was in relentless form - smashing the ball with
gay abandon. There was a deluge of runs, mainly from Hayden's
bat.
