West Indies were confident going in to chase the target of 228
runs. Under the lights, with the ball doing a lot more than
during the day, it was never going to be an easy task against the
likes of Vaas and Muralitharan - two world-class bowlers. Hinds
(2) was the first to go, playing a cross batted shot a bit too
early. There was a great deal of expectation that Brian Charles
Lara will play a sparkling knock. He struggled to score just the
solitary run off 23 balls. It was a great piece of sportsmanship,
which is very rare in world cricket these days that saw Lara
actually walk after getting a faint edge to the keeper, as even
umpire Orchard was unsure about giving him out. Lara's dismissal
was a big blow to the West Indies, but a reminder to the world
that cricket can be a gentleman's game too!
