The man who helped Sri Lanka to avoid total ignominy was veteran
bat Aravinda De Silva. The classy right-hander, who made a 100
the last time the two sides met in a World Cup match, went on to
make 92 from 94 balls, whipping four wristy sixes and nine fours,
before a return catch back to Brad Hogg ended his tour de force.
He was given a standing ovation as he left the field after doing
battle with the Australians for what was probably the last
occasion in an illustrious career.
