After Sanath Jayasuriya won the toss, Sri Lanka's batsmen were
forced to graft hard for runs on a torturously slow Buffalo Park
pitch. Only seven fours were stroked during the first 25 overs, a
remarkably low percentage for a side that normally trades heavily
in boundaries. Opener Marvan Atapattu, playing the role that he
revels in, was his team's batting star on the day, anchoring the
innings and batting through the 50 overs.
