Tinu who? was the question on most lips just before the first Test
match. Tinu Yohannan is the son of the Indian athletics legend TC
Yohannan, who had set a long standing Asian record in long jump. Tinu
took to high jump and was a gold medal winner at the state junior
level. This tall lad went to the MRF Pace Academy where under the able
guidance of the pace bowling legend Dennis Lillee he picked up the
finer nuances of fast bowling. His international career got off to a
great beginning, he took a wicket of the fourth ball of his Test
career; Mark Butcher was caught by VVS Laxman in the slips. Yohannan
had a good Test debut picking up both the opening batsmen in the two
innings!
