Marcus Trescothick is the tall left-handed opener from Somerset, an
attacking batsman who doesn't mind using his feet to the spin bowlers.
It will be interesting to see whether Trescothick takes a leaf or two
out of Matthew Hayden's book while playing in India. Hayden enjoyed a
lot of success with his positive approach, using his feet and playing
with a straight bat. Trescothick gave signs of that in the match
against Mumbai Cricket Association President's XI with a cracking 60.
England's strength is their batting and the tourists will look to
Trescothick (Test average of 36.93) to give them a good start and
enable them to build a huge total.
