Mark Butcher will open with Trescothick and the pressure will be on
the Surrey batsman to do well in India. After smashing a match-winning
173 not out at Headingley in the recent Ashes series, there will be
high expectations on this left-handed batsman. Butcher is not a
batsman who uses his feet to the spinners and against the likes of
Harbhajan Singh and Anil Kumble, he is bound to struggle. In the tour
match against MCA XI in Mumbai, Butcher was all at sea against the
spin attack, almost giving the impression that he was walking through
a minefield. But then he (Test average of 28.96) carries a lion-heart
and his match-winning ability might come in to play at some point in
the Test series.
