CricInfo is proud to announce that on 6th June, 2000 star
Australian batsman Ricky Ponting was our guest in our ongoing
series of interviews with some of the biggest names in the
game.
|
|
The Tasmanian born and bred player has emerged as one of the most
exciting young cricketers in the world in recent years, and he has
been a key figure in his country's recent achievement of registering
record winning streaks in both Tests and one-day internationals.
|
|
In the longer form of the game, Ponting generally bats in the number
six position; in the shorter version, he bats most usually at number
three. In both, he is an attacking and aggressive presence at the
crease whose capacity to execute a full range of shots and desire to
dominate attacks generally flows to the surface freely.
|
|
Over recent months, he has experienced something of a range of
emotions, rising to the post of the national vice captaincy before
seriously injuring his ankle while fielding in the final home match of
the 1999-2000 summer and being forced to endure a long period on the
sidelines.
|
|
Ponting is confident of returning to the Australian line-up for the
one-day series against South Africa in Melbourne in August and it is
in the midst of his continuing preparation for this series that we
meet with him - armed, of course, with a selection of your questions.
