Anjum Chopra too good for England
When the Indian women's team went to England in 1999 very few people rated their chances highly. The home side would have so much of an advantage, said crictics, that India may not be able to win even a single match. The batswomen in the Indian team would not be able to adapt to conditions where the ball swings and seams. Unbeaten Chopra overwhelms Central Zone
India's premier women's cricket team Air India took on Central Zone in a key encounter of the CricInfo Rani Jhansi Trophy 2000. The venue was the AC Tech University Cricket Ground, a place where the wicket has always been slow. On the day, it was especially so, with the ball not coming onto the bat. This made it extremely difficult for batswomen to play big strokes. For the first time in the tournament, Air India captain Purnima Rau won the toss and elected to bat first. Slow wicket or not, she had faith in her batswomen. Anjum Chopra handsomely repaid that faith.

Having gotten off to a good start in the previous match India played, Chopra could not go on to make a big score. The fact that she only made 13 against the South Africans spurred Chopra on in the game against the Netherlands.

Chopra stands tall as Ireland surprises India
Anjum Chopra is the kind of player who is difficult to dismiss when she gets well set. The vice captain of the Indian team chose to do just that in India's encounter against Ireland in the CricInfo Women's World Cup. After being put in to bat by Ireland skipper Miriam Grealey, India made the best of a good batting surface. Choosing to open with Anju Jain and Purnima Rau, India got off to a disastrous start. With no runs on the board, captain Anju Jain was clean bowled. Four runs later, Purnima Rau ran herself out. If things weren't bad enough already, Chanderakantha Kaul followed in Rau's footsteps and she too was run out. India were 3 down with just 4 runs on the board.
